For me,
it comes down to a simple set of passages that describe the type of faith that leads to
salvation. Did you know that even demons have a kind of faith in God? The Bible says, "Even the demons believe," but they are not "saved." And they are certainly not affected by the power of Holy Spirit.
The kind of faith that saves is a faith that changes a person's heart and
mind, so that her life reflects God's glory (like a mirror.) Her life becomes a reflection of who He is.
The
Bible says that only faith brings God's salvation. (See Acts 16:30-31; Eph.
2:8-9; Rom. 10:9-10.)
Yet, our
lives are to be (or will be) a living
testimony (proof) of the faith we say we have. (See 1Cor.5:17-21.)
I love
the second chapter of Acts! If you go to verse 14, you can see how the
Lord spoke through Peter in that awesome sermon! Peter reminded the people of
God's promise through the prophets... and in verse 21, it says, "And it
shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved."
He explained Jesus' role in the promise, and how the old and new testaments
(covenants) would be bound together as one. Check out verse
33..."Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having
received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth
this which you both see and hear."
The
people were amazed and asked how they should respond. Peter answered,
"Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit." (Keep reading through verse 47 - it was such an incredibly
powerful period of time in the church. And it continues today!)
What now?...
Have you seen changes in your heart, life, attitudes and actions since you began believing in Jesus Christ? Write them down in your journal, and give thanks to God for what He's doing.
