Follow Me

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.  -1Corinthians 11:1

Our youth group students had finished a 30-day challenge.  The challenge was to wear their faith in the form of a black t-shirt for thirty days straight.  The shirts simply said, "Follow Me" on the back.  The bigger challenge was not to outlast peer pressure (it was, after all, the beginning of a brand-new school year!) Nor was it to forego the latest fashionable styles.   The real challenge was to live their faith in such a way as to show the world it was a faith worth following.  Did you get that?  A faith worth following.

Every time I put on my t-shirt, I remember the cost.  My life is to be lived to bring glory to Jesus, my Savior.  That means to show a clearer picture of who He is than what the world would have seen on its own.  Am I trusting Him?  Am I obeying Him?  Am I living a life that shows what it means to follow Jesus?  "Follow me as I follow Christ" begins with a sincere pursuit of Jesus.  Sacrificing my personal wardrobe is a small effort compared to the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.  What about you?  Do you believe this?  Is yours a faith worth following?

More time…
"Follow me," he told Him, and Matthew got up and followed Him. -Matthew 9:9
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.  -John 10:27-28
Don't let anyone look down on you  because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.  -1Timothy 4:12

Pray…
Dear Lord, thank You for inviting me to follow You.  I pray that my life would be one that honors You.  Help me to live an example that would cause others to want to follow, too.  Help me to speak well, to live well, to love well, to be faithful and to honor purity.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.

Now what?...
Ask the Lord to help you to follow the course that He's set for you.
Make a list of friends and relatives who you would like to lead in following Jesus, and pray for them often.
What are you willing to give up in order to lead the lost to Christ?
Consider and write down one way in which the Lord may be challenging you from the verses listed above.
