the goal is love

"But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith."  ~1Timothy 1:5

"We're not really living until we learn how to love."

In this simple sentence from Paul's letter to Timothy, what does he say is the source - what should he  strive for - in order to achieve the goal?  (hint: there are 3 things)

~a pure heart
~a good conscience
~a sincere faith

Of those those three elements, is there anything lacking in your life?

Is your heart pure?  Are your motives right?

Do you have a clean conscience?  Are there things that you're hiding, that need to be confessed?  Is there sin that you need to turn away from?

Is your faith real?  Have you truly surrendered to Jesus Christ?  Do you trust Him completely?

In my own life, I know that it's my heart that gets in the way of my giving and receiving love the way God intends for me to.  Seeds of bitterness or anger, pride, and selfish motives - all of these are the things that get in my way.  What I need to do is commit my fears to God; allow Him to get rid of the anger and bitterness that sometimes takes root; and love Him with my whole heart!

I pray that each of us would examine our own lives, and bring to God the things that require His loving touch, that we might be completely His, and reach the goal He has set out for us.
